So this noise has suddenly popped up. The dealership has checked all the belts, the aircon, the oil pump, the fans etc. They haven't herd noise before and can't find where it's coming from. Car runs 100% normal. No overheating, no oil or water use. (We just had the 99k service and the pcv valve replaced 100km ago.) The noise is there all of the time. No error code. Any squeak boffins out there? #frustrated #help.

i am going to just have a stab in the dark here, the car has high miles the noise is coming from passenger side. the noise also sounds like its rubbing on something. dual mass, timing chain guides?

with out taking a look it is a guessing game.

It's not coming from just left side. We just filmed from that side. With the bonnet open you can't pinpoint the exact position. All fans, pulleys etc have been checked. My question is why isn't there an error code (yet) and no change in performance, no oil or water use. Could it be something simpler?? Oh gosh I hope so

Tbh it sounds like a noise ribbed polybelt, divetor pulley or tensioning device šŸ¤”

Have them changed just to eliminate inc the tensioning device.

You won't get an error code a less it's a electrical fault.

As for the fluid usage a leak won't necessarily make a noise to show it up.

Remove the serpentine belt then run it for a few seconds and see if the noise stops.

I think that's what it is!!! It looks like it's one of the belts.

Ben we are talking about dealerships here šŸ˜³

Remember you gave a member the heads up in regards the N492 valve fault which a main dealer couldn't sort šŸ„“

If it`s a belt noise then spray WD40 on it with engine running. It will stop instantly for a few seconds then come back again.

Hi all. Apologies for the silence. Agent is taking their merry time. So it is apparently not (!] a pulley or bearing! it's not the Dual mass flywheel and we are now onto the turbo. Which I do not believe it is I am beyond frustrated now. The next thing is to look at rings and pistons. My bloody pocket is empty and I have no answer yet. Ffs

Iā€™d have thought with either the bonnet open or the car up in the air surely they can pinpoint that.

Trouble with dealers they are rubbish at playing detective.

Can rings and piston problems make that noise.

Go round various parts of the engine/gearbox with a stethoscope or failing that a long screwdriver put to your ear. You`ll should hear the noise easily enough.
