Hi chaps,

Been looking at fitting the 8 pots for quite some time now and wanted to know a bit more information about the mounting adapters.

I realise they sit in a slightly different position to the standard 4 pots but is it offset? Mounting holes? Any idea which mounting kit is best priced?

I understand the 8P/8v discs have the same offset so the deciding factor will be are the hubs the same & if so you just use the 8v caliper brackets & keep it factory mate.

When I had the 8P I bought these brand new

They fitted but you’d need a 4mm spacer when refitting the Rotors as the curve of the spoke as it meets the hub would catch the 4 pot caliper.

Food for thought speak to Matin/Tony at Reylands as they make custom brake caliper brackets & as they have disc/hub dimensions on file they may just need the calipers to make them up for you mate.

Keeping everything factory would be best but I presumed that the 8V brackets just wouldn't fit since the likes of T-800 above purchased adapter brackets. I might just source a set of calipers and then go from there. I know the wavy discs on the 8V are 2mm thicker than the 8P round discs but not sure how that fits with the offset. As you say if the bell is thicker/thinner that would causes issues.

 

T-800, Good info about the wheel spacers though I must ask if you are referring to the factory brackets or the new ones you have purchased? I have 8V 8.5J rotors fitted which will give me a little extra clearance due to offset (+1mm IIRC) and I 'think' the spokes are slightly thinner but wider?

Without asking T-800 his calipers may have come without brackets at the time of purchase.

As you have 8v wheels i don't think your have a issue with the caliper clearance tbh.

If you could fine someone who has a complete 8v caliper to offer up then your really know were you actually stand.

I think the issue may be the older rotors as the spoke is more curved, whereas the newer 8V Rotor has a ‘squarer’ backed spoke, if that makes sense.

Yes I went for aftermarket brackets because I’m not sure the 8P ones will accept the bigger caliper.

champion, thanks very much lads! Im just going to go ahead and source a set and see how things marry up as the chances of finding anyone up here with a one to test fit will be difficult at a guess haha.

 

Yeah that's what I thought too T-800, I found washing the caliper fronts easier since changing the wheels due to the extra clearance... that will soon disappear if I find a set

8 pots ordered along with a set of 8V wavy discs. I have the full 8V setup so I’m going to order up some Hel brake lines at the same time, and then trial fit everyone on one side to see what if anything needs adjusting such as the adapter brackets

i think i've read somewhere before, that the 8v sportback fits the 8p, but not the 8v saloon.

maybe the sportback is wider in the front like it is for the 8p.

 

i cant really confirm it, but i'm pretty sure i read it somewhere

I can’t find any part numbers for the factory caliper adapter brackets to be honest, but the saloon is 11mm wider than the sportback according to figures. Where exactly I’m not sure.

There's no part No for the brackets on the 8P Brembo either so I'm guessing they come with the calipers just as it is with the caliper to bracket mounting bolts.

I understand the 8P & 8v discs have the same offset baring the difference in thickness 8P 32mm 8v 34mm.

My gut feeling is if you get the calipers with the factory brackets there be a straight fit.

I guess that makes sense as Audi use the same calipers on multiple models, therefore if you end up with a set with the wrong adapters you will need some aftermarket versions. Never thought about it in that respect.

The good thing is I will have a complete set of both brake setups so will get plenty info and post it up here of what fits and what if anything doesn’t fit.

Don't forget T-800 bought just the 8 pot calipers without the oem brackets & then had to find aftermarket alternative brackets.

I've had a e-mail from Martin @ Reylands about the disc offset between the 8P/8v & there are:- 8P 20.5mm 8v 18.4mm.

So i stand corrected that they were the same.

Ohh that’s interesting! Thanks for that Dell.

So realistically that’s 3.4mm offset difference if you take into account the extra thickness of the disc. Good job I have the discs coming too, gives me the best chances of getting the setup on without needing alternative brackets.

You should renew the caliper bracket to hub bolts at the front.Torque to 200 Nm.

They are a use only once bolt. Same as most Audi bolts. Luckily they are cheap.
