With all the nice weather I decided to give my car a goood wash last night once the sun wasn’t on the car. I’ve never used 2 buckets but after reading loads of comments on here I ordered 2 x 20 litre buckets with grit guards, new microfibre clothes, cleaning mitt and ph neutral shampoo. I already have a snow foam nozzle for my Karcher.

Firstly does anyone have any good tips on what to use if they have ceramic coatings because the company I used said there is no need to apply wax? I read a lot of people use a detailing spray after washing and before drying to give increased shine, so any views on that would be appreciated.

For the interior I’ve tried all sorts over the years and I’ve never really found something which is as good as when I’ve had a proper valet. Something nice smelling would be good as I’m sure the new car smell isn’t going to last much longer.

One thing I’ve noticed on the RS3 is the sill under the door seems to get dirty very quickly even though the gap below the door doesn’t look any bigger than normal. I did experience the water pouring on me the other day when I opened the door like I’ve read is common on here.

Lastly just wondered how often everyone washes their car? The general pattern I’ve had with cars is weekly when new and tailing off to every couple of weeks after a few months. Nothing better than a lovely clean car though. 😃

I know most things have been covered over the years but new products always come out and new owners have new ideas, so thanks for any advice in advance. 😎

Hi Stu,

Having had both cars coated with ceramic coatings, I've never found the need to have to wax them or use a detailing spray after washing them.
The screen shot below is after the ceramic coatings had been in place for >1 year, just after a wash -

Usually wash them every 2 - 3 weeks

A Getechniq detail for me and then just was with G-wash

Maintaining that New car smell is easy.

I buy the Gliptone real leather air fresheners . Like a magic tree, Hang in the passenger footwell, barely seen and gets warm Air blown on it to circulate from the heaters. They last months cost about £3 each and I always get comments of the new car leather smell👍😀

Exactly the same for me Paul.
Gtechniq G wash for simple washing now and those air freshers are awesome. I do treat it to a deep clean every 6 months with Gliptone cleaner & conditioner.

Another here for Gliptone.

They have started selling a spray version now so I thought it’d be rude not too

Any excuse for a drive over to clean your car

When I got the car I used Fusso to get me thru winter.

Then on every wash it’s just a case of applying C2V3 Gtechniq

For your interior try nanolex interior cleaner m, you will be amazed! Safe to use on all surfaces and keeps the leather looking and feeling matt. Also cleans the alcantara brilliantly. No smell tho

I use Autoglym products.

For a general wash I use the high definition shampoo, then I use the detail spray afterwards. If I get the chance I do it weekly but if not every other week.

Usually twice a year each car gets a full day spent on it, where I will wash it, detail it using a clay bar, polish it then wax it. After doing this just washing it and using the detail spray brings it up lovely. I will polish them every couple months in between.

For the interior I use the leather cleaner followed by the leather balm.

Well, that's the easiest shopping list I'll ever have to make. Like having a personal shopper. Cheers mate :P

It always starts off with a wash mitt.

Then you realise you could really do with a car smelling of fresh linen and it just goes downhill from there.

Dan: Love the fact you don't need to dry it. Cquartz UK has a waterproof base leaving no water marks on wash when dried? I'll have to get some of that

Hi James, yep the cqautz does bead brilliantly and repel’s water from the road really well. I had half a bottle left over and decided to give the car a quick detail over Easter weekend. Bought crystal serum light and exo v3 as I wanted to spend four days on the cutting and finishing, but rain sorted that right out so it every panel once with megiaurs d300 and used the last of the cqautz. The joys of not having access to a nicely lite garage instead of a gazebo 😂😂😂

Tell that to my carport mate. The cobwebs formed there may as well be the best deterrent to a thief there is. All of what you use sounds expensive, but good for maintenance. I'll have to work out a budget :P

Ah not as bad as I thought for long lasting maintenance. Watch this space, cause the Nardo monster will be glistening brighter than Tom Cruise's teeth yet.

The new Gtechniq crystal serum has hardness of 9H (pencil) and a 9 or 10 year guarantee. With an Exo top coating, or 2 for extra gloss, it’s one of, if not, the best coatings out there. Downside is you need annual top up to maintain guarantee.
I give mine, which has CS Black coating, regular spray with Gtechniq QD or similar and the finish is as good & glossy after some 30 months and feels oh so silky smooth when running finger over it. Give occasional jet wash pre rinse, snow foam, jet wash off & dry any surplus water with large fluffy micro fibre towels, then a quick QD, all of which takes 45-60 mins.
