How often do peeps change their haldex oil? Dealer says 3 yrs but surely more often is better; your experiences would be most appreciated:

36,000 miles I think........
Or 3 years if you don't rack up the miles......

This is what I was told when I collected mine, was the only major thing apart from regular oil services and inspections...

Mine is coming up to 31k so will be asking soon, inspection is due anytime now

Every 39k according to Audi which is when mine was done. Can't comment on what it looked like when changed!

Just had my haldex oil changed  for the second time at 27,000 miles and just over 6 years.

My RS is now 6 years & 29k 1st Haldex oil change was at 3 years & 21k by Audi.

 

I've just ordered an oil filter from Hadex Spares & bought the Haldex oil from TPS as i'm changing it myself this time.

 

I'm also at the same time going to take out the pump to check for any debris on the mesh strainer.

Mine was done at 4K and will be done again this year at 7000, will do the filter as well from now on. Car is 2012

Audi dont change or have a part No for the Haldex filter ! 🤔

I got mine from a Haldex specialist that supplys one for the Haldex4 mate.

I asked Audi to change the filter as they don't do it automatically (heard that on here). According to the invoice I paid for a filter so you'd hope they did actually change it!

Only way they can change it is purchasing a full new pump as it’s attached to it and has no part number in Etka.

If Audi were thorough they should’ve unbolted the pre-charge pump and washed out the filter gauze......

Takes minutes at an oil change to unscrew the charge pump from its housing and clean out the gunk....

I changed the haldex oil on my Golf R at 15k and 18 months old.
Here’s what my pump gauze looked like

Removed the 2 screws and cleaned the gauze and refitted

When I had my last RS3 the dealer changed the haldex oil at 21k and the pump failed at 24k
The theory is that cause the pump sits slightly lower than the drain plug all the crap tends to gather around the pump and block the pumps supply of oil.
Loads of people suffer pump failures after having the oil changed. I’ll be doing my own within the next few months and removing pump and cleaning the gauze.
I think the haldex system does have a filter but not available from Audi parts as they say it’ll never need changing.

Do you lads drain the Haldex oil first then remove the pump to inspect it?

Yeah drain it then remove the pump and it’ll drain a little more then.
Once refitted and refilled it’s better to give it a short drive and recheck the level.
Usually takes another 100 ml or so once the pumps bled through

If you have VCDs you may be able to run the pump up instead of going for a run.

 

I will be giving that a try when i do the oil & filter change with in the next few weeks.

Yeah I think replacing the oil makes it worse as all the crude then gathers around the pump.
When I done mine I just popped it in to D on a 2 post lift and all 4 wheels drive then rechecked the oil and topped up.
The vcds would be an excellent option for anyone doing this on the floor
