It is now at the dealers and they will start on the docs Monday, coatings on Wed/Thurs/Friday morning and collection on Friday. It has all fell into place and just in time to drive to Leicestershire to see my family for the weekend.

You are not wrong there Roy. My misses said she can't wait for me to collect it so I can stopping going on about it and 'checking that stupid app'. 

 

At least next week I can actually post some info about driving it and can get some pictures on (if we can work out why they don't appear).

You are right there trying to get those miles up quick so I can have a play.

With the great post that was put up about the £57 oil & filter change offer I have managed to get free oil changes through work anytime I like. At least this means I can do a couple of extra changes during the early miles whilst running it in. Another good thing that has come from joining such a knowledgeable forum.👍

Tomorrow the R goes and for the 2 day’s whilst the coatings are being done I’ve been leant a RS3 Saloon demo car. I will definitely have some fun in that before it gets swapped for mine on Friday.😃

Well I’m having a great time in the demo car having done over 200 miles today. Launch worked really well all 6 times. 😜

Just popped down to see mine and the main coating has been done already. All looking good except my OZ wheels do not fit. ☹️
I have rang Rimstyle and they are contacting OZ as I type to find out what has gone wrong.

Looks good (in the reply thread!)... That's a PITA about the wheels though - hope they get sorted soon.

 

Right, uploading photos... This works for me. Others may have an easier solution...

 

Get yourself a FLICKR account, upload your photos, then click on a photo and you should get the option to Share Photo - select the 'BB Thread option'.... you'll get a ridiculously long string of data

 

When on this forum, select the add Image button and then paste this data into the URL box. You'll only need the information that is inside the "[ img] ..... [/ img]" brackets - delete everything else. Your photos will now show up and we can all see how funky your car is without having to check it in the reply field!!!

Hi Drgav - it is a real pity the forum isn't working with the standard picture uploads on the site. I use several forums where I simply add a photo from my photo section on my phone with no issue.

The biggest problem with third party hosting is when they change their T&Cs like photo bucket recently did. This has left tons of forums with thousand of dead links due to them disabling the links if members of the hosting company don't agree to the changes. Some of these changes can involve payment.

 

I am no web expert but I know it isn't a particularly difficult thing to do and they now have this facility on the Military Lightweight forum. Once it's done everyone can upload without issue unless the file is too big.

 

The weird thing on here is I have some work and other don't off the same phone. Also the preview shows it posted ok so the data must have uploaded correctly.

 

With my car I am in discussions and will be driving from Southampton to Rimstyle in Ashford, Kent on Friday morning if I have to.

 

Roy - I think I must have missed a post with the Scotland R8 thing lol.

 

What does it won't be long until it's ruined mean?

So far I’ve done nearly 500 miles even though I could have took a work vehicle out if I wanted. I’ve been out driving tonight in between posts and I agree these cars really drink the fuel when you boot them. I have to say it’s worth every penny to drive such a great car. Only 4 launches today because I didn’t really get the opportunity. I gotta say I’m really impressed on the cornering capabilities an£ you gotta be driving outright dangerously to get understeer on a normal road.
I know a 8P is supposed to be the loudest RS3 but I was pretty impressed with the sound of the FL with the sports pack on full boost.

Let’s see what happens tomorrow with the wheels after a bit more investigation.

Ah, sorry to hear about the wheels Stu, such a shame. Let us know! My car is on train now to docks. I will wait until I get it before I jump on the wheels. Will get it detailed as well with clear wrap to front bumper, bonnet and wings.

Seventeenapg - You could have yours in 7-10 days then based on my times. :-)

I went for the PPF on the front bumper, grill and all the black trim in the end. When looked at my 3 year old R 99% of all chips were on the bumper and none on the wings at all. they cannot apply the PPF on anything with ceramic coatings on or it falls off. On the cheaper less effective coating the PPF will stick.

 

I have been on the phone to Rimstyle a lot today and between them and OZ direct they think they have it sorted with a specific set of concentric spacers. They are coming overnight so I have a garage on standby to do the fitting as soon as possible. Fingers crossed.

 

Ozmosis - Yes 1000hrs tomorrow is collection time, so I will be heading up to Leicester tomorrow evening as planned. talk about the 11th hour lol.

 

Regarding launches I did manage a few more today and I will be satisfied I will have the launch bug out of my system for a bit whilst needing to run the new one in. Although I have been driving the loaner like I had stolen it, I have also balanced it with some very sensible driving. During one of these sensible periods an old lady pulled out of a junction in front of me, which fully tested the brakes, tyres, steering and my boxers. I came to a stand still 6 inches from where she panic stalled and was so close to trashing it. I very politely checked on the old lady and she said she didn't see me. I suggested she had an eye test so she doesn't get in an accident in the future. I didn't have the heart to be annoyed and it was just as well it wasn't a 20 year old scumbag with a bad attitude. The remainder of the day I have driven like I borrowed it off my own Mum lol.

Thanks Arthur. I am now up in Leicester and have done my first 175 miles. What a great car is all I can say so far.
