It depends on your preferences - I could certainly live without it, but I'd far sooner have it that panoramic roof, personally

I have it on my 8V pre-FL car and love it. Comfort is excellent for motorway cruising and very bumpy roads. Auto is my default setting for regular driving (which typically involves making progress without taking the Michael). Dynamic is for when you are totally 'on it'.
If the RS3 will be your daily driver (as mine is) then I would highly recommend it.

if you have children or partner who isn't into the 'sporty' feel all the time then spec it.... i love dynamic (firm) but when my young child or wife are in the car comfort is amazing...very noticeable and very smooth

Am I missing something here.Dynamic suspension on mine is the usual very stiff but in comfort or auto there is hardly any difference. Passengers always ask me to soften it off but it already is.Definitely stiffer in any mode compared to my 8P.
Catalunya Red ,Heated rear window,Power steering,Wireless (with FM),Seat belts,Servo assisted brakes.Pneumatic tyres. Disc brakes.

And , also, I might want to lower the car with 1" H&R OEM springs. Can I still do this if I have MR?

The car already comes with sports suspension which can be adjusted comfort, auto and dynamic. Is it the case that magnetic ride is a step above this which negates ADS? Is it that MR continuously adjusts dampers depending on the way in which the car is driven?

The RS doesn't come with MR as standard it's always been an option.
There's no suspension adjustment until you either 1) buy a car with it already specced 2) order a new one an spec it as an option, which is £995 option now on the FL.

There is a difference between the modes with Mag Ride. I know this as I drove over one of those small plastic speed bumps in Comfort the bottom of the car hit the top of the speed bump. In Auto, if I drove really slowly over it just cleared it. In Dynamic I could drive over it normally (slowly) and the bottom of the car was nowhere near it.

Very expensive way to be honestCan mag ride be add to the car at a later date or only when being build in factory ?
All the wiring will need installing plus the controller / ecu / dampers / and a ton of coding / component protect removal.

I'm in process of speccing up my RS3 saloon and am considering mag ride. I'm just not sure if it should be first on my option list, mid way or last if budget allows. What's the feeling on this one? Is a pano roof or the rs pack more important?
I drove a FL car a few of weeks ago which did not have the mag ride specced so I was interested in experiencing the difference in ride comfort compared to my car which does have it.
We initially started on a short piece of new A road and made our way onto some twisty B road routes for the first part of the test drive. All seemed ok to start with, the ride comfort didn't seem too harsh and the car turned in nicely at the bends. The set up felt very similar to my PFL car with the rear ARB upgrade. However, the last part of the route was a dual carriageway which hadn't been re-surfaced for a fair while. At the 70mph limit (and a little bit over that in some parts ) the older uneven surface of the road made the suspension 'patter' ever so slightly, which after about 3 or 4 miles became surprisingly annoying. In my car I would have simply just changed the setting to Comfort or Individual mode.
So in conclusion...
If you are a fussy old fart like me, IMO the mag ride does give you the added benefit of controlling the ride comfort and would therefore be a definate tick in the extras list!
