Hi everyone.

After 5 months of driving with a feather on my break pedal the famous squeal have started.

The discs seems fine but the pads are starting to get low both front and rear.

So i figured il give it a try and change all brake-pads. (Both front and rear)

From what i read i need 2x sets of EBC Redstuff "DP31513C" for the front and 1x set "DP32173C" at the rear.

(Please correct me if im wrong)

Also i been asking around if the "DP31513C" actually includes one pad with built in wear sensor, but i get different answers every time.

From what i understood there should be one pad with built in sensor, and that i have to use the old connector head and splice the cable from the new one and attach it... Right?

Is there anything particular i need to know before starting / any good advice... (Special care when pushing the pistons)

(Already have tools, VCDS etc)

I make sure to take some pictures while doing the swap, that will hopefully help others doing the same.

Best regards.

\Chris.

Hi Chris

On the 8P RS you reuse the old pad wear sensor as they dont come with the new pads but the sensor is a bit fragile so it will pay to get a new one.

The sensor is fitted on the left hand front & just clips onto the brake pads then replugs into the loom on the suspension leg.

Theres nothing special about pushing the front pistons back, the rears just need a winding back tool to push them back.

All the Best.

It will stop any squealing for sure but what you will now get is vibration from the discs when braking at slow speeds.Audi agreed to replace my discs with the round ones but when i took it in they refused due to me voiding the warrenty with the redstuffs fitted. I have just ordered the 380mm Alcon discs from Revo, its disgraceful that we are all having to put our hands in our own pockets to sort this out!

That is really mean of your dealer, but I guess  typical.

Chris, it might be a good idea to get your discs skimmed - just enough to take off any build-up on the faces so that you start off with everything good., any reputable auto machine shop will do it in no time at all, and at not much cost.

Thanks everyone for your input.
Already been talking to my local dealer who said that the breaks are more than 6 months, and that they never heard any problems at all with the RS3 (8V)'s pads or discs.
So there is absolutely no interest trying to help me, thats why im fixing it on my own.
My current wavy discs are weirdly enough in excellent condition.
Ran my finger over them and they are completely smooth.
Its only the pads that i hate, so they are going...
But if that isnt enough i will definitely consider "Hal"'s idea to get the discs skimmed.
But when the day comes and the discs are giving up, il go full aftermarket disc and possibly a rear break upgrade.

"Caney" how many pads did you get in a Redstuff set?
Also did you have to change the cable head?

Thanks again.
\Chris.

Here's a pic of the set I recently received (same as the part number you quoted)

The supplied EBC kit has eight separate pads, two of which have sensor cables. You only need one sensor cable so will need to trim the surplus one off. Note: The plastic connectors on the EBC pads do not fit the RS3 sensor connector. You will have to trim back the old one off the used OEM pad, cut off the EBC connector leaving enough exposed wire and then solder the OEM connector to the EBC pad. Suggest you cover the join with some heat shrink tubing.

Alternatively, cut the wires off both EBC pads fit them and then get someone with VCDS to code out the low pad warning light. You will obviously need to keep on eye on pad wear if you go this route.

I will be fitting my set of pads with a pair of Alcon 380mm two piece discs to replace the Audi wavy OEM ones.

The beauty of the oem sensor is when it wears down to a certain point it comes out anyway, as I found out yesterday

It can be cut and soldered to your choice of replacement pads.

I've decided I'm going with Ferodo DSPerformnce pads.
