Having checked today, the tyre sealant in my 2012 RS3  went out of date  Feb 2016.

Rather than pay Audi approx £25  and only have to replace it again in 4 years, I have decided to buy this

https://www.amazon.c...ords=airman 620

Benefits:

Longer shelf life - upto 8 years

It can easily be rinsed off the tyre using water to allow full repair.

Easy to use. Connect pump to bottle, and then bottle hose to tyre, the product is pumped in as tyre inflates.

Hopefully will never need it, but worth having. :)

I'd say this is a better option regardless of the dates, doesn't the oem one ruin the tyre?

Yes I remember seeing a thread on this so even if it was repairable the kit has basically wrote the tyre off. I've bought the holts emergency repair kit which again can be washed off easily. Under a tenner too.

I went for the Holts tyre weld too for that very reason... Halfords had it BOGOF recently 👍

I had also read using the Audi sealant may write off the tyre.

Other products are available, like the Holts, or Slime. I hope this one will fit in the same location in the boot.

Buy a space saver for the boot and then don't worry about nasty foam at all.

Bonus is added weight over the rear axle so better traction.

Downside is is will only fit on the rear axle wheels due to the size of the front brake callipers so if you get a front puncture you have to remove the front wheel, move a rear wheel to the front and fit the space saver on the back to get you home. Luckily jacking from the front jacking point lifts both the front and rear wheels at the same time if you wind the jack high enough due to chassis rigidity.

Remember the foam can only be used for relatively small holes, if the tyre puncture is more of a slash or a shred then it's useless and you are stuck waiting for a recovery truck.

I'd rather not have to use the widow maker jack if I can help it. Especially at the side of the road.
If I am that stuck, then it's a call to Audi Assist.

agreed OEM is crap - I've gone one step further & now carry spare rim in boot ready to swop over for punctured one.

The Audi sealant has been dispatched to the bin.

The AirMan Product in my first post above has replaced it and fits neatly in the space under the boot carpet.

Neil I bought the 620ml linked. I figured it was worth having the extra for the little difference in cost.

Having just checked this photo I took, the Audi one was 450ml, seen here bottom right.

Thanks Paul; purchased three 450ml cans (A1, TT and RS3) off eBay for £19.99 each including delivery; as you've already done my Audi cans are binned
