That's an new one. Never had any gearbox issues with my MK1. Sorry I can't advise. When you mentioned about accelerating without moving I thought that it maybe propshaft related, as that's what happened when my prop went.  Assuming that you bought it a few weeks a go, hope you have some sort of warranty. Keep us updated.

Never heard of that in all the time on here but initial thoughts are clutch or prop. Best to have it checked out with someone with VCDS and then if necessary a garage and repaired under whatever warranty you got with the car if it were a dealer sale. What is the age of the car, how many miles and has it had the necessary s-tronic oil change if appropriate?

Assuming you have drive to all four wheels (and I don't speak from any tech standpoint here) it's not going to be the Haldex system as I understand this is the unit that distributes drive and has known problems detailed elsewhere.

In terms of the olden days it sounds like you would likely have a very dodgy clutch, or no oil in the gearbox. P_G's comments should be noted!.

Good luck, let us know the outcome.

I've recently had my prop done and I still had drive as our cars our mostly front wheel drive until we kick them. I would be more on P_G's diagnosis of clutch related as my dads V8 has just started doing something similar and Land Rover think it's clutch.

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

It could be an early sign of Mechatronic unit failure maybe ? As this unit does control the clutch packs.

Has anyone done a flowchart for the various ills that affect these cars?

Audi must have something along those lines we can steal borrow.

You need a vcds scan first before spending any money on anything. Where abouts are you?

Think in an S3 but gives you a good idea of the colour.
Not sure I am a fan of the wheels though !!

It's supposed to have an s-tronic service every 40kmiles however TBH if you do any spirited driving or have it mapped I'd 1/2 that personally, same with Haldex oil service

38K I think. I just had both of the Stronic & Haldex services done and my jerky gear changes disappeared.

The Haldex unit controls the engagement of the rear wheels when asked for by the ECU

It has a special Oil/Lub inside that needs changing to keep it running tickity boo.

Early units such as on the MK1 TT had a small filter that needed changing too, however the newer Generation ones don't have a filter anymore.

You can see on the bottom right the Clutch pump that seems a weak point on MK1 cars

This is what i bought when doing the Haldex service on our 3.2 TT MK1
