I think the manual tells you that the car as so many gadgets working even with the car "off" that after a set period of time it sheds electrical load and does so in a particular order, most likely to leave the alarm and central computer functions working as long as possible.

The 911 (997) I just passed on to its new owner did the same thing. After a week, open with key only.

Does the same thing happen with both keys?  Have you changed the battery?

Re-opening this topic as my 2nd key, while working on the lock and starting the car, doesn't play when I want to remote open/close.

Red indicator light on the fob flashes when buttons are pressed.

I haven't used it since I got it 2 years ago which may not help - do I need to do something clever to re-sync the key to the car?

Any ideas welcomed, especially if it avoids my having to look at the manual.

Press the unlock button on the remote then manually unlock the door with the key. Then press unlock or lock to make sure its worked.

Otherwise check the battery on the remote, l.e. make sure the LED is bright. Otherwise new battery required.

Cheers though.
